Children's rooms shoot
Tuesday
It all went off without a hitch.... or as close to that as humanly possible.
I'm am at home working on my copy and replaying the last two days in my head.
In the nights before the shoot I laid awake fretting and working through every possible aspect of the shoot and its logistics:
How can I transform a blank white space to look like I'm at a location? Do I have enough props? How can I possibly suspend a cradle to look like it’s attached to the ceiling - will sandbags be heavy enough or will I have to volunteer to be the counterweight? Do I have enough props? Should the walls be white or off white? What can I do to make sure the readers realise the sofa is a sofa bed? Should the floors be white or whitewash? How on earth am I going to be able to have enough time and patience to put together multiple pieces of IKEA? Would kids actually like the stuff I've selected? Do I have enough props? How will the three different rooms relate to one another while at the same time be different enough? Would anyone put flowers in a little boy’s room? Do teenagers still buy CD's or is it all online now? Do I have enough props?
Not the BIG questions of the world, but certainly BIG in mine.
All the couriers turned up, my items arrived on time and intact from near (Sydney) and far (Netherlands). I certainly had enough props (!!!), together with a photographer who got what I was trying to achieve, her fabulous assistant and my fabulous assistant. All my ideas translated to camera as I had imagined, apart from a couple of scale issues. and for the record – no - I cannot draw entire rooms of furniture and accessories to scale.
All the worry paid off, I'm pleased with the shoot, and more importantly, so is my boss!
I'm going to sleep really well tonight.
The final product
