Slow and steady wins the race
Thursday
It’s been a busy week and yet I’m already falling behind on the schedule I’d set myself.
Last weekend, The Terminator (aka Neil) came and changed some light fittings and took down the chandeliers. The living and dining room areas had ugly neon lights (the long ones that are commonly found in offices). Having had some experience in playing with electricity, and desperately wanting a mention in my blog, Neil gave himself the title of The Terminator and came armed with tools. I need to stress here: Do not try this at home. Electricity isn’t something to be messed around with. Nevertheless, I still insisted on learning how it’s all done and changed the living room light under his guidance. The chandeliers were then carefully dismantled and taken down, ready for some ceiling roses to be installed and some serious cleaning. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much dust on anything as on those chandeliers. So one of my next jobs will be to give them a good clean and repair.
Another trip to Bunnings saw me coming back with some more paint sample pots. Over the course of the last year, I’ve turned the walls into a colourful artwork with all the sample colours I’ve tried. The paint expert at Bunnings told me to just choose a colour and stick with it, and that he’d never known of anyone who was such a perfectionist when it came to choosing the right colour. I think I’ve got a sample pot for almost every colour of yellow, cream and pink (the pink’s for the kitchen, don’t ask…). According to him, some people just come in, buy a big tin of paint and have him tint it then and there without testing the colour first. I will decide on the colour this coming week. I will….
On Tuesday, my big ball of weeds (aka, the garden) was finally cleaned out (again). It looks fantastic (thank you Jan!). I was a bit worried about the job being done at all because of the heavy rain Sydney has been experiencing this week. However, they need to come back and remove Demon Weed (Lantana) from the side of the house. It’s meant to happen today but as I write this, I’m watching the rain bucketing down outside, so I think this will probably have to wait a few days.
The return of the plumber depended on the garden being done. With that pretty much finished, I called the plumber and spoke to him about getting the job done. My brother had said that the sewerage still needed to be connected to the mains and to get the plumber to give him a call. So I passed on my brother’s details and waited. The callback brought some not so good news. My brother told the plumber that a lot of additional and expensive work still needed to be done before the laundry could be up and running. The plumber isn’t sure if this is required, but both he and my brother will meet at my house on Saturday to discuss it. I told the plumber that I only wanted to do what was absolutely necessary to get it up and running and didn’t want any further delay in finishing off the rest.
And that’s pretty much it for me for this week. I haven’t even made a list of things to do over the next week yet. I’ll get to that tonight…
In the meantime, here are some photos of the laundry – still a work in progress, but progress nonetheless …
