Positive paint

Tuesday

Dawn rises on 2010 and we continue to paint. My shorts supply is dwindling, sacrificed to the Paint Goddess in a lavaesque mass of reed green, vivid white and Russian toffee. I vaguely remember really wanting to do this...

It is easy to forget how time deficient we all are. Many's the night that we have gone to paint when the kids are in bed - watched over by guardian grandparents - and traipsed home after midnight, knackered and squinting, cutting in in our sleep.

Don't get me wrong, there are positives (though not many): I have Bunnings totally sussed and the Dulux dogs and I are finally on first name terms.

Perhaps my New Year's resolution will help with my painting debacle. I'm ashamed to admit that I regularly steal resolutions from friends, this year being no exception. Henceforth, I plan to look only at the positive.

For example, paint colours: Kim and I are a bit 'boring beige' on the design front, but when I painted Luca's wall reed green the other day I was ecstatic with the result. Of the several family members that I confided in regarding this great outcome, none were in agreement. In fact, when I showed Luca, 3 years, a colour chart and asked her to pick her favourite colour, what did she pick?

Off-white.

  • hi emma im the girl from bunnings that served you, its alot of hard work isnt it. like i told you im in the same boat and we have finished building and start painting next week, i am not looking forward to it. but hey, i just keep thinking its almost over.. well sort of any way, keep up the good work and i might catch you at bunnings again.
  • Colour and tone are the essence of painting as pitch and rhythm are of music! It is true that colour is highly subjective, but it does have observable psychological effects. I happen to love green - in fact it is my favourite colour! In the health field, we use green to lower blood pressure, relax the nervous system and soothe the mind...so I say lucky Luca! To add insult to your critics, in Feng Shui, green refers to growing energy, healing and health. They should all be green with envy.
